Opportunity

Upstream Tech is a technology company that uses satellites and machine learning to help organizations manage and monitor natural resources. We are growing quickly and building out our business development team that connects partner organizations and customers to our services.

Specifically, we are looking for a talented team member to help expand the reach and impact of our HydroForecast work to enable informed renewable energy and conservation decision-making. We have great early momentum and are looking for a leader to help significantly ramp up our commercial traction over the next few years.

You will wear many hats in this role: setting goals and direction for the sales team, tracking sales performance, engaging in sales outreach and pitching prospective customers, serving as a liaison with the engineering team as we grow the product, guiding marketing efforts and prioritizing entry into new markets through which we can maximize global impact.

The right candidate is driven by our mission, has utility hardware or SaaS sales experience, has experience managing a team, has an understanding of energy utilities, and should demonstrate excellent independent work ethic and a desire to work closely with a driven, remote team.

Role

As a leader on our Growth & Partnerships team, this individual will drive the sales and growth of one of our key products, HydroForecast in partnership with the existing sales and business development team. This is an opportunity to shape and implement product growth strategy at its early stages.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the process of setting direction and providing oversight for the HydroForecast business development and sales team, including developing and managing sales forecasts and budget

  • Provide management and mentorship to the business development and sales team

  • Track progress and ensure that team is hitting commercial goals

  • Lead sales opportunities and relationship development with key customers in existing and new markets

  • Support the team in closing deals to meet and exceed our sales targets

  • Guide pricing strategy as we enter new markets

  • Coordinate with our marketing lead to set marketing and content development  strategy in order to increase quality inbound leads

  • Engage with customers in new markets and track industry trends; and provide regular feedback and input to both the product and commercial teams to inform product development and financial forecasts

  • Some travel to conferences and sales meetings. Most presentations will be remote video presentations and phone meetings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., business, environmental management, data science, engineering, energy); master’s degree preferred

  • Industry knowledge, connections and experience in hydropower, the utility industry, or renewable energy, or water more broadly. 

  • Experience leading a team, managing sales performance, and setting business direction for a team or product

  • Proven sales track record: 10+ years work experience in sales and business development, ideally with utility hardware or SaaS products. We are open to strong candidates at different stages of career progression.

  • Experience with and comfort working with technology applications.

  • Located in a United States time zone.

Location 

Remote. We conduct business using technologies like Slack and video conferencing. We host an annual in-person trip to work, bond, and celebrate our successes.

Travel. We are looking for someone with flexibility to travel for meetings and conferences ~10-20% of the time on an as-needed basis.
