Opportunity
Upstream Tech is a climate tech software company enabling better decision-making around natural resource management. We have two software products, Lens and HydroForecast, and hundreds of customers. We have received federal funding in the form of SBIRs as well as subcontracts through federal programs including USDA NRCS’s RCPP program. Both products have been adopted in parts of the US federal government, including US Army Corps, US Forest Service, and others.
We are seeking a consultant or part-time employee to both help grow our existing federal relationships as well as proactively identify new opportunities for growth and connections. This is an exciting opportunity to guide our growth as we scale our products and services across the public sector markets. The ideal candidate is able to both help define an effective government sales strategy as well as roll up their sleeves to execute.
Role
The right candidate has a track record in government sales, strong existing relationships at federal agencies focused on natural resource management (e.g., US Army Corp of Engineers, DOE, USDA, USFS, DOI, USBR, USGS, BLM, NOAA, NASA), stellar communication skills, demonstrates excellent independent work ethic, and has the desire to coordinate and lead public sector sales processes within a driven, remote team.
Responsibilities
Work closely with sales leads on each product to create federal outreach and sales strategy, and establish effective sales coordination process
Generate warm introductions and play a key role in leading sales processes with federal government entities
Track and coordinate responses to RFPs and grant opportunities
Network with potential project partners for joint responses
Track regulatory and budget developments that have implications for our business
Serve as a voice of the customer for our product and sales teams to understand the needs of federal customers
Lead navigation of federal procurement processes
Some travel to conferences and sales meetings. Most presentations will be remote video presentations and phone meetings
Preferred Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (e.g., business, environmental management, data science, engineering, energy).
Connections and experience working with the federal government - specifically seeking experience with US Army Corps of Engineers, DOE, USDA, USFS, DOI, USBR, USGS, BLM, NOAA, and/or NASA.
5+ years work experience in a sales or business development oriented role. We are open to strong candidates at different stages of career progression.
Industry knowledge and/or experience in natural resource management, hydropower, the utility industry, renewable energy, and/or water.
We have a preference for this role to be based in or around Washington, D.C., or to have the ability to travel there as needed.
