Opportunity

Upstream Tech is a climate tech software company enabling better decision-making around natural resource management. We have two software products, Lens and HydroForecast, and hundreds of customers.

We are looking for a seasoned media professional to join our team and guide our communications strategy and execution for both products and the corporate brand. In this role, you will work collaboratively with the marketing team and company leadership to help improve the visibility of our two products and corporate brand.

The right candidate is driven by our mission, has SaaS and clean energy PR experience, success placing stories in trade and mainstream publications and should demonstrate excellent independent work ethic and a desire to work closely with a driven, remote team.

Role

This person will report to our Director of Product Marketing. This is a fully remote, part-time contract position. The time commitment will vary by week depending on priorities but will be in the range of 10-20 hours per week. This can be pre-determined during the final stages of the interview process.

Responsibilities

  • Create and execute on the company’s media strategy

  • Build and manage a list of relevant target media houses and journalists - both for mainstream media and trade publications

  • Distill existing product and corporate marketing content down to compelling newsworthy pitches

  • Pitch stories to target publications

  • Draft press releases and media narratives and pitch to target media outlets

  • Conduct newsjacking effectively to ensure timely coverage of stories

Preferred Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree; graduate degree preferred (e.g., MBA or related field)

  • A passion for clean energy and natural resources

  • Experience marketing and storytelling in the climate tech industry

  • Success pitching and placing stories in mainstream media and trade publications

  • An ability to grasp technical-speak and distill complex concepts into storylines

  • A wide network with connections to relevant journalists and media outlets

Compensation & Benefits

Starting pay for the successful applicant will depend on a variety of job-related factors, which may include job-related knowledge, skills, and experience, market location, business needs, other compensation components, and/or market demands.

Location 

Remote, in continental US time zones. We conduct business using technologies like Slack and video conferencing. We do an annual in-person trip to work, bond, and celebrate our successes.
