Opportunity
Upstream Tech is a climate tech software company enabling better decision-making around natural resource management. We have two software products, Lens and HydroForecast, and hundreds of customers. We’re looking for a talented, driven Business & People Operations Associate to join our team and help us grow.
You will wear many hats in this role: supporting operational priorities of the executive team, managing HR processes, and more. The right candidate is driven by our mission, is highly organized and an excellent communicator, has interest in energy and environmental issues, and demonstrates excellent independent work ethic and a desire to work closely with a driven, remote team.
Role
As a member of our Operations team, this individual will play a key role in shaping, driving, and implementing efficient operations across the team as we scale. This person will report to our Chief Commercial Officer. We are open to fully-remote candidates as our team is remote across the United States, though we have a preference for candidates located in the Greater Boston Area to support administration and operations at our Greentown Labs headquarters.
We are open to full-time or part-time candidates for this position.
Responsibilities
People operations:
Administer payroll process though external payroll administrator
Work with external providers to manage employee benefit plans (healthcare plans, 401K)
Support recruiting and hiring processes, as well as support onboarding and offboarding
Manage our internal processes / documentation / knowledge management as we grow
Coordinate opportunities for cross-team learning and bonding (including our annual retreat)
Coordinate professional development and training opportunities
Coordinate biannual performance reviews
Coordinate with executive team on HR issues, policies, and programs
Maintains confidentiality of human resource files and records
Business operations:
Administrative support for company leadership on an as-needed basis
Support logistics such as processing mail and checks, and coordinating materials delivery for conferences
Support grants administration, including invoicing and reporting
Preferred Qualifications
Undergraduate degree
2+ years work experience in an operations or HR role
Ideally experience with Trinet, Rippling and/or Fidelity for HR and benefits administration
Familiarity with energy and environmental issues and enthusiasm for our environmental mission
Experience with and comfort working with technology applications
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Self-starter with strong attention to detail

Location
Remote, with a preference for a candidate in proximity to Somerville, MA. We conduct business using technologies like Slack and video conferencing. We get together for an annual in-person trip to work, bond, and celebrate our successes.
Salary
Compensation for this role will be commensurate with experience and whether the role is part- or full-time. The full-time salary band for this role starts at $60,000.
